Prerequisites
- You must have the system_administrator or platform_admin role to access most workspace settings.
- Safety policy settings also require the safety_manager role.
Accessing settings
Navigate to Settings in the sidebar. In the Safety module, this opens the settings hub with the following sections:| Section | What it controls |

Steps
PlaneConnection uses a freemium model where all core SMS features are available on the Starter plan. Higher tiers unlock additional capabilities:
A documented safety policy signed by the accountable executive is required by 14 CFR 5.21. The safety policy must include a commitment to safety, code of ethics, and non-punitive reporting provisions.
Navigate to Settings > Data Retention to review and set retention policies. Default retention periods align with 14 CFR 5.97:
You can set retention periods equal to or longer than the regulatory minimums. You cannot set retention periods shorter than what the regulation requires.
Navigate to Settings > Trust to define your organization’s non-punitive reporting (just culture) policy. This is required by 14 CFR 5.21(a)(4) and includes:
Integrations are available on Pro and Enterprise tiers. If you need a specific integration not listed, contact PlaneConnection support.
Module access
PlaneConnection workspaces can have two modules enabled:- Safety (SMS): Safety Management System features
- Operations (Ops): Flight operations management features
Operations module settings
When in the Operations module, settings are accessible under Settings in the Ops sidebar (searchable viaCmd+K). Operations settings include:
- General preferences (calendar, email)
- Flight tags and categories
- Third-party vendor integrations
- Profile settings
