Trips are the central unit of work in the Operations module. PlaneConnection uses a multi-step wizard to guide you through trip creation, from route planning to crew assignment.

Prerequisites

  • You must be logged into your workspace.
  • You need at least one aircraft in your fleet to assign to a trip (optional but recommended).
  • Crew members should be set up if you want to assign PIC/SIC during creation.

Trip types

Select the trip type that matches the purpose of the flight:

In the Operations module sidebar, click Trips, then click New Trip in the top-right corner. The multi-step creation wizard will open.

You can also use the command palette (Cmd+K) and select New Trip.

Step 1: Route and dates

Fill in the route and scheduling details:

  • Departure Airport: Enter the ICAO or IATA airport code for the origin (e.g., KTEB, KLAX).
  • Arrival Airport: Enter the airport code for the destination.
  • Date: Select the departure date.
  • Time: Set the scheduled departure time.
  • Trip Type: Select from charter, owner, maintenance, positioning, or training.

    Click Next to continue.

    Airport codes autocomplete as you type. You can search by airport name or code.

    Step 2: Aircraft and crew

    Assign the aircraft and crew for this trip:

  • Aircraft: Select an aircraft from your fleet dropdown. The list shows the aircraft registration along with make and model.
  • PIC (Pilot in Command): Select the pilot in command from your crew roster.
  • SIC (Second in Command): Optionally select a second pilot.

    Click Next to continue.

    Aircraft and crew assignment is optional during creation. You can add or change assignments later from the trip detail page.

    Step 3: Passengers and notes

    Add passengers and any relevant notes:

  • Passengers: Search and select passengers from your passenger database. You can add multiple passengers to the trip.
  • Notes: Use the rich text editor to add trip notes, special instructions, catering requests, or other relevant information.

    Step 4: Review and submit

    Review all entered information on the summary panel:

  • Route (departure and arrival airports)
  • Date and time
  • Trip type
  • Assigned aircraft and crew
  • Passenger manifest
  • Notes

    If everything looks correct, click Create Trip to submit. You will be redirected to the trips list.

    After creation

    Once created, the trip appears in your trips list with a unique trip number. From the trip detail page you can:
    • Edit trip details (route, dates, assignments)
    • View the flight summary with estimated times and distances
    • Add or update crew assignments
    • Generate a cost estimate
    • Track the trip status through its lifecycle (draft, confirmed, active, completed, cancelled)

    Viewing trips

    • All trips: Navigate to Trips in the Operations sidebar.
    • My trips: Use the My Trips filter to see trips you are assigned to as crew.
    • Calendar view: Access the calendar settings to see trips on a timeline.
