By following this guide, you will review safety management actions in the activity log, filter and export audit trails, and use the log for compliance evidence and incident reconstruction.
Who should read this: Safety managers, admins, and auditors who need to review safety management actions, reconstruct event timelines, or prepare evidence for FAA surveillance activities.Prerequisites: Safety Manager, Admin, or Auditor role. Standard workspace members can view their own activity but cannot access the full organizational log.

Open the Activity Log

Navigate to Safety > Activity in the sidebar. The activity log opens in List view by default, showing the most recent actions first.

View Modes

The activity log supports two display modes. Toggle between them using the view switcher in the top-right corner.
ModeDescriptionBest For
ListDataGrid with sortable columns, advanced filtering, and export capabilities.Searching for specific actions, bulk review, audit preparation, and data export.
TimelineChronological MUI Timeline displaying actions in sequence with visual indicators.Reconstructing event sequences, reviewing recent activity at a glance, and safety committee reviews.

Filter Tabs

Three tabs segment the log by scope:
TabShowsUse Case
AllEvery action across the workspace.Full organizational audit trail.
My ActivityOnly actions performed by the current user.Personal review, verifying your own submissions and updates.
System EventsAutomated actions — scheduled reviews, status auto-transitions, notification dispatches, and integration syncs.Distinguishing human actions from automated processes during incident reconstruction.

List View Columns

ColumnDescriptionDefault Visible
TimestampDate and time the action occurred (UTC with local time tooltip).Yes
UserThe person who performed the action (or “System” for automated events).Yes
ActionThe type of action performed (see the actions table below).Yes
Entity TypeThe record type affected: Report, Investigation, CPA, Hazard, Document, Compliance Element, User, etc.Yes
Entity NameThe name or tracking code of the affected record (e.g., RPT-2026-00123).Yes
DetailsA human-readable summary of what changed (e.g., “Status changed from New to In Review”).Yes
IP AddressThe IP address of the user at the time of the action. No
Click any entity name to navigate directly to the affected record. This is especially useful when reviewing a sequence of changes across multiple related records.

Actions Tracked

The activity log captures the following action types:
ActionDescription
Status changeA record’s status transitioned (e.g., report moved from New to In Review, CPA moved from Open to In Progress).
Evidence uploadA file was attached to a report, investigation, CPA, or compliance element.
Report submissionA new safety report was submitted (standard, confidential, or anonymous).
Investigation updateAn investigation’s findings, timeline, RCA, or recommendations were modified.
CPA transitionA CPA moved through its lifecycle (Open, In Progress, Implemented, Verification, Closed).
Compliance updateA compliance element’s status or evidence was updated.
Document changeA document was created, revised, or archived in the document management system.
Hazard reviewA hazard in the register was reviewed and its assessment updated.
Login / LogoutA user signed in or out of the workspace.
Role changeA user’s role or permissions were modified.
Configuration changeA workspace setting, SPI threshold, or feature toggle was updated.

Filtering

Use the filter bar above the list to narrow results:
FilterOptionsDescription
Date rangeStart date, end dateRestrict to a specific time window.
UserDropdown of workspace membersShow only actions by a specific person.
Action typeMulti-select from the actions listFilter to specific action categories.
Entity typeReport, Investigation, CPA, Hazard, Document, Compliance, UserFilter by the type of record affected.
Entity nameFree-text searchSearch by tracking code or record name (e.g., INV-2026-00008).
Filters can be combined. For example, setting User to “Jane Smith,” Action type to “Status change,” and Entity type to “CPA” shows only Jane’s CPA status transitions.

Export

The activity log supports two export formats:
FormatContentsUse Case
CSVAll visible columns including any applied filters.Spreadsheet analysis, data archival, sharing with auditors.
PDFFormatted report with filter summary, column headers, and page numbers.Printed audit evidence, management review packages, FAA documentation.
To export, click the Export button in the toolbar and select your format. The export respects all currently applied filters — only the filtered data is included.
Exports include a metadata header showing the filter criteria, export date, and the user who generated the export. This establishes provenance when the export is used as compliance evidence.

Use Cases

Audit Preparation

Before an internal or external audit, use the activity log to:
  1. Filter by date range covering the audit period.
  2. Filter by entity type to focus on the area being audited (e.g., all CPA activity for Subpart D evidence).
  3. Export to PDF as a supporting exhibit for the audit file.

Incident Reconstruction

When investigating a safety event, reconstruct the sequence of actions that preceded and followed the event:
  1. Filter by entity name using the relevant report or investigation tracking code.
  2. Switch to Timeline view to see the chronological sequence.
  3. Expand the date range to capture actions on linked records (investigations, CPAs) that stemmed from the original report.

Compliance Evidence (14 CFR 5.97)

Part 5 Subpart F requires maintaining records of SRM outputs, SA findings, and training records. The activity log provides:
  • Timestamped proof that risk assessments were performed and reviewed.
  • Evidence that CPA verification followed separation-of-duties requirements.
  • Records of compliance element updates and evidence uploads.
  • Documentation of management review activities.
The activity log is append-only. Records cannot be edited or deleted. This immutability ensures the audit trail meets regulatory integrity requirements. If an action was performed in error, the corrective action is recorded as a subsequent entry.

Management Review Data

Safety managers and accountable executives can use the activity log to prepare for management review meetings:
  1. Filter by date range for the review period (typically monthly or quarterly).
  2. Review the All tab for a summary of organizational safety activity volume and distribution.
  3. Note patterns — are certain record types seeing more activity? Are specific users carrying a disproportionate workload?
